Clear Lucite and blue stripe bangle

We are introducing a lighter range of bangles for summer.  This light catching retro bangle is made of clear Lucite with a sky blue stripe running inside it.

It is about .8 cm wide  and .8 cm deep (3/8 in) with a standard bangle inner diameter.

It is in good condition.

Trio of summer bangles

These plastic retro style bangles would coordinate with cool summer cottons, worn together or separately. 

They are about 1 cm wide (3/8 in)  and .4 cm deep (1/4 in) with  a standard bangle inner diameter.

They are in good vintage condition.

 

	Red carved Bakelite bangle This carved Bakelite bangle is a wonderful shade of red.  The carving motif repeats five times around the outside of the bangle.  The bangle is translucent and the inside is textured. Its inner diameter is standard for bangles - 6.4 cm (2.5 in).  It is about 7.5 cm (2 7/8 in ) on the outside age. This carved Bakelite bangle is in good condition.

Flower expansion bracelet

At first sight, this looks like Bakelite; it is similar in colour and translucency.  However, it does not test positive with Simichrome, suggesting it is a differently formulated plastic. 

It expands on 2 strong elasticised bands.  The resting diameter is 5.7 cm (2 1/4 inches) and it is about 1 1/2 cm wide (5/8 inch).

It is in good condition.

'End of Day' marbled bangle

This thick, irregularly shaped bangle looks like what is commonly called 'end of the day'.  Basically, the maker took selected colours used during the day to create one off pieces.  This bracelet shows a fascinating marbleised effect in shades of blue and brown on a rich ivory background.

it is about 2 1/2 cm wide (1 inch) and a standard bangle inner  diameter.

It is in good condition.

Carved Bakelite bangle

Bakelite makes a classic 1930's bangle.  This is a sought after carved Bakelite bangle - it  tests positive with Simichrome.  The colour is a light butter scotch, with the grooves looking a darker colour.  The inside is somewhat shaded.

It is 1.8 cm wide (.71 inch) and standard bangle diameter.

There are some surface scratches.

Tangerine saucer bangle

This tangerine colour is almost neon in its reflective quality.  The bangle is a translucent, almost transparent lucite-like material with a faint smoke fill.  The camera does not deceive - the outer edge gradually increases from 1 cm to 1 1/2 cm (3/8 to 5/8 in) .

It is in good condition.

Root Beer saucer bangle

This sought after root beer coloured bangle is identical in shape and size to the one above.  Because of the darker colour, the inner smoke is more dramatic.  The two look terrific worn together.

It is in good vintage condition, with only a few minor surface scratches.

Trio of malachite bangles

These dazzling bangles have a yellow metal (perhaps brass) inner surface.  On the outside, it looks as if slices of malachite have been set into an enamel-like malachite coloured base, giving a smooth, textured pattern surface. 

Malachite is a semi precious stone considered a powerful crystal by believers in crystal healing.  Coordinating malachite earrings can be seen in the Earring Gallery.

These are a fairly standard size - the inside diameter is 6.5 cm (about 2 5/8 in).  The two smaller bangles are about 3mm (1/4 in) wide and 3mm (1/4 in) in depth.  The larger bangle is almost twice the width and slightly deeper.

They are in good rustic condition that gives a hand made look.

Natural stone expansion bracelet

Each stone in this fascinating bracelet has distinct colours and markings in shades covering the brown, orange and yellow palettes.  We think it most closely resembles agate, but there are other stones with similar markings.

The stones are rectangular with a curved indentation on the long side  (1.5cm (5/8 in) by 1.2 cm (1/2 in).  The bracelet is about 5.5cm (2.5 in) in diameter and has been recently restrung.

It is in good condition.

Wide Lucite-like smoke filled bangle

This dramatic bangle features a smoke-like interior.

The inner surface is round and standard bangle size.  The outer surface is irregularly shaped, ranging from about 2.5 cm to 3.8 cm (1 to1 1/2) in thickness. 

This is in good vintage condition with the odd surface scratch.

Mother of Pearl Bangle

If you love mother of pearl, then this is for you.  It appears to have been carved from a single shell. 

It is irregular in shape, with subtle markings that catch the light and the reflect the colours around it.

It is about 1 cm w and 6.8 cm in diameter (3/8 by 2 1/2 inches).

It is in good condition.

Retro flower moulded bangle

This is moulded hard plastic in a wonderful shade of ivory and very reminiscent of 1930's Bakelite, though it is modern retro.  The flower and leaf motif appear three times around the bangle.

Inside there is a makers mark of LC.  A very similar bangle (at a higher price) was seen at Agatha, Paris Jewellery in London's fashionable South Molton Street. 

This is 4 cm (1 5/8in) wide and has a standard bangle opening (7 cm -2 3/4 inches).

It is in good condition.

Reversed carved Lucite bangle

There is amazing contrast and shading on each petal of this bangle.  It appears in layers, a Lucite-like covering on the outside, a black back with the white reversed carved flowers tucked inside.

We've heard a story that jewellery like this was made in the evenings by foreign POWs in Great Britain during WWII, but must stress this is unconfirmed.

This is just under 2 cm (3/4/in) wide and has a standard bangle opening (6.5 cm -2 5/8 inches).

It is in good vintage condition.

Polka dot lucite bangle

The polka dot bangle is a classic.  This one is made in a clear lucite-like material with yellow polka dots peeping from inside an aqua backing. It is 1 1/2 cm wide (3/8 in) and a standard bangle diameter.

There's a small surface scratch near the edge, but it's in good vintage condition.
